Rolex Oyster Perpetual ref. 6298 “Everest” w/ original shovel buckle & box.
$12,500.00
HISTORY.
The ref. 6298 was Rolex’s answer to improving the ref. 6098’s that accompanied Edmund Hillary & co on there famed 1953 summit of Everest. The watch now wielding a better gasket system, 3-piece 36 mm case, and a super oyster crown, would set the foundation for what we now know as the Rolex Explorer. In 1953, we still see the ref.6298 outfitted with what we refer to as the “Everest” dial. In this particular example, we are fortunate to experience the ultra rare original shovel buckle, original box, & a period correct Rolex stitched strap. This one was really a part of the paradigm shift between pre & post 50’s Rolex.
